Back in June 2009 Google announced that they would be testing a new product ad that would work on a cost-per-acquisition payment model. In other words, advertisers would only pay for the clicks that resulted in a sale of the product. I’m assuming that this product ad testing did not go as planned seeing that it was not rolled out to all Google AdWords advertisers.
Never fear though… Google has launched a new product ad test…
This time the Google product ad includes an image of the actual product. The product ad will be displayed at the top right hand side of the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) above
the other sponsored ads. According to Barry Schwartz of Search Eninge Land:
“Google has been experimenting with various ways to integrate products from Google Base (Google Shopping) into the AdWords spots. We have seen at least two forms prior to this, including the plus box and method and the quick text links version”.
These new product ads are not yet visible to all Google users, instead the ads are only available to a small number of United States users. However, if all goes well you may be seeing the new feature show up in your Google AdWords Interface!
