Yesterday I watched a webinar by Tim Ash on the “7 Deadly Sins of Landing Page Design”.  Take the following quiz to find out if your landing page is a “sinner”.

  1. Have an unbiased searcher look at your landing page and ask them what they think they should do on the page.  Did they say your desired action? If not, then your landing page has an Unclear Call To Action and your landing page is a sinner.
  2. How many choices do you offer on your landing page?  If you didn’t know the products inside and out, would it be overwhelming?  If so, your landing page has Too Many Choices and your landing page is a sinner.
  3. Does your landing page form ask your visitors to provide their city, state, zip code, cell phone number, or any other non-pertinent information before you give them the “free” offering?  If so, your landing page is Asking for Too Much Information and your landing page is a sinner.
  4. Does your landing page use grammatically correct sentences in paragraph form?  Does it explain each product with an in depth description?  If so, your landing page has Too Much Text and your landing page is a sinner.
  5. Does your ad promise a specific product and your landing page give a variety or products?  If so, your landing page is Not Keeping Your Promises and your landing page is a sinner.
  6. Does your landing page have flashing pictures or a pop up window?  If so, your landing page has a Visual Distraction and your landing page is a sinner.
  7. Does your landing page establish credibility by boasting well known brands and or security guarantees?  If not, then your landing page has a  Lack of Credibility and Trust and guess what… yup, your landing page is a sinner.

If your landing page has been identified as a sinner of one or more of the 7 deadly sins of landing page design, don’t panic.  Tim Ash also gave easy ways to redeem and improve your landing page in yesterday’s webinar.  Look for those redemption opportunities in Amanda Chaney’s next post.
