Google Changes Its Name to Topeka!

As an annual tradition, Google plays an April Fools’ joke on its searchers.  Last year it was the “Gmail Autopilot Feature” that allowed Gmail users to have their Gmail account automatically respond to emails without users even having to read the email!  It would analyze the orginial message, craft a response and send it all by itself.  This of course was an April Fools’ prank.

So what is Google’s 2010 prank?

Google is Changing Its Name to TOPEKA!  After learning that the mayor of Topeka, Kansas announced that his city was changing its name to Google, the search engine formally known as Google has been deciding how to “honor that moving gesture”.  The search engine announced today, April 1, 2010 that

“Today we are pleased to announce that as of 1AM (Central Daylight Time) April 1st, Google has officially changed our name to Topeka.”

So on this beautiful Spring day (well at least beautiful and Springy if you live in Charlottesville, VA) if you visit you will not be greeted by the usual Google logo but instead a logo of similar colors that reads Topeka.

*Note if you visit you will be greeted by a blank page on April 1st.  Come on Google, you couldn’t get them to play along?
