Marketing Mojo Helps ScottMadden Improve Organic Traffic by Almost 10%


ScottMadden is a management consulting firm that focuses on energy consulting and corporate & shared services. They engaged Marketing Mojo to perform an SEO Audit to uncover how their website could perform better in organic search results.


Marketing Mojo evaluated the ScottMadden site, performing a thorough SEO and analytics audit. Surprisingly, several of the pages on the website had oddly long page load times. Given that the pages were mostly comprised of text and had limited imagery and Javascript, it wasn’t immediately clear why the page load times were so abnormal. Upon further investigation, Marketing Mojo found that the “time to first byte” (TTFB) – the amount of time it takes for a browser to receive the first byte of the response from your web server – was much higher than the average site. In some cases, some pages on the ScottMadden site took as much as 17 seconds to load. In the end, it turned out that the browser caching for WordPress had inadvertently been disabled, leading to pages having to load common elements every time a web page call was made to the server.


After re-enabling browser caching in WordPress, over the next three months, page load speed improved throughout the site on average by 28.96% and site traffic from Google organic increased 9.67%.
